Daniel Swarovski was born in Bohemia, back in 1862. A long time before he became the head of the company destined to become the definitive leader in the world of crystal, as a child Daniel was enchanted by the effects created by light, and by crystals. Crystal became the center of Daniel's life: Bohemia was one of the main hubs for the production of glass and crystal. His father’s small workshop also ground crystal, and the young Daniel spent hours watching the artisans at work. He was 21 when he had the idea that would change his life and revolutionize the entire world of crystal production: a new machine for grinding this wondrous material. Nine years later, in 1892 to be precise, he submitted the patent application for a machine that enabled crystals to be ground to an extremely high level of precision, far more quickly than was previously possible with long, labor-intensive manual work. This was only the first step in a long journey founded on great passion and commitment, which revolutionized the way crystal was worked and understood, making Swarovski a unique iconin the industry. To this day, the name Swarovski makes everyone’s eyes light up. It is this priceless story of passion and attention to detail that has led Ghirelli to include the unique light offered by crystal in our jewelry.
