The World Rosary Day (www.worldrosaryday.org) was conceived in 2024 by initiative of the Diocesan Catholic Confraternities of the PanEuropean Forum of Confraternities (www.confraternitas.org), together with the Dominican Confraternities of the Holy Rosary from the nineteen Dominican Provinces of Europe and all the Dominican Provinces around the world, led by the Promotor Generalis pro Rosario, Fr. Lawrence Lew OP.
The global day of prayer was set for 7th October 2024, the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, answering Pope Francis’ request to pray globally “as a single heart and soul” (Acts 4:32), especially through the intercession of Our Lady, for the spiritual fruits of the 2025 Holy Year: «I would greatly desire that we devote 2024, the year preceding the Jubilee event, to a great “symphony of prayer”. I ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to accompany the church on the journey of preparation for the grace-filled event of the Jubilee.» [letter of 2-11-2023]
WORLD ROSARY DAY 2024 EDITION October 07th , 2024
On October 6th 2024, the day prior to the event, Pope Francis the recommendation to also pray for the world’s peace. Under the patronage of the Vatican’s Dicastery of Evangelization, and as part of the Holy Year’s program, the WRD soon spread well beyond the confraternities, to include International Shrines, multi-national lay associations, Basilicas, Sanctuaries and Churches all over the world. In Rome, the WRD was prayed at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, led by now Card. Rolands Makrickas, in front of the famous icon of Mary: Salus Populi Romani.

In total, over 900 groups from 71 countries joined the global Rosary, during the 24 hours of that day, confident that, as Pope Leo XIII declared: «Prayers acquire their greatest efficacy in obtaining God's assistance when offered publicly, by large numbers, constantly, and unanimously, so as to form as it were a single chorus of supplication. Those who practise this manner of prayer will never fail to obtain certain fruit.» [De Rosario Mariali, 1897] Indeed, one of its first fruits was the shared decision to repeat the World Rosary Day on 7th October 2025, and a newly expanded website was created for that purpose. As the very first visit of Pope Leo XIV outside of the Vatican was to the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome, to pray in front of the famous statue of the: Ave Regina Pacis, the intention of the 2025 World Rosary Day, will also be the world’s peace.
